I first learned about Transcendental Meditation last Summer after reading Dr. Joe Dispenza’s book “Breaking The Habit Of Being Yourself”. This book had such a profound effect on my life with my first look into Quantum Physics and how our thoughts create our reality. (That’s another blog post) I was so eager to know how to access the Quantum Field and in the book, Meditation was mentioned as the primary gateway.
Let me backup and tell you what TM is exactly. It is a non-religious method for relaxation, stress reduction and self development. It is taught by a certified teacher through a standard course of instruction and involves the use of a silently used sound called a mantra. In this practice, the mantra is a sanskrit word with no meaning, which helps you keep your mind from wandering when thoughts come up. It is a very simple technique that you simply focus your mind back to your manta instead of following thought. TM is usually practiced for 15-20 minutes, twice a day. The whole idea is to quiet the mind and then from that beautiful quiet space you will find a portal into the quantum field. In the Quantum Field, all of the possibilities for your life exist! Every single version of you!
Well I have to tell you that before I knew that I could create and live the life of my dreams (!!!), in this quantum space, I was mainly interested in helping my husband through a very difficult time in our lives. He had just undergone a full knee replacement and the knee wound up getting a very rare and obscure bacterial infection. This infection would require him to basically sit for the next 9 months to a year and take twice daily high dose infusions of intravenous antibiotics. Now this man had never had any kind of surgery or illness in his life and is used to working out and playing tennis 5 or 6 days a week so I knew this was going to be the biggest challenge of his life. I needed to know how to help him relax during this time and more importantly, keep my (our) sanity.
Transcendental Meditation was the answer!
I took the course along with one of my closest friends and began right away feeling more clear headed and my stress levels were way down. It took only a few months for my husband to see how this practice alone was changing me. I couldn't have convinced him with my words, because as you know, words don’t teach. It is only by living through an experience and leading by example that others can learn from you. When he was ready to learn how to meditate and start feeling better mentally he signed up and took the course .(It only requires about 8-10 hours of instruction and most of that is learning about how and why it helps) Now that might not seem like a big deal, but believe me when I say, my husband was probably the last person (other than my parents) who I would ever think would be open to this.
Let me end here by saying we have been meditating together every single day, twice a day, since last Fall and our relationship has grown in so many positive ways. I am also happy to report that after 4 knee surgeries and countless doses of antibiotics he is infection free and finally able to walk again. Transcendental Meditation is truly the best gift you can give to yourself or someone that you love. We definitely would not have made it through the last year without this practice in our daily lives. Don’t even get me started on how everyone could benefit from Transcendental Meditation during this global pandemic and quarantine!
