The first way that I stay fit mentally every morning is through meditation. When you begin the day by quieting your mind, everything seems so much more manageable. You take the time to sit quietly and line up energetically with how you want your day to go, and then things usually just flow. This is so much better than just jumping right in to emails and phone calls and interacting with people who may have other ideas about how my day will go.
I love to take my puppies out for walks every morning and during this time is when I set my intentions for the different segments in my day. I speak out loud to the universe, almost like I’m saying a prayer. I also use this time to express my gratitude for all the blessings in my life. This whole time that I am out walking with my dogs has become such a great way to raise my emotional state and my vibration and prepare my heart and mind for the work of the day.
#3 Healthy Eating
I like to mix up the foods that I eat on a daily basis and try and choose from foods from all varieties of color. This includes mostly fruits and vegetables and a little protein, to help build and strengthen my muscles and give me enough energy throughout the day. I find it much easier to focus when I have eaten foods that are “living” and filled with nutrients that my body seems to crave, as opposed to when I eat processed food or prepackaged foods.
I used to always make a protein shake after workouts but recently I am enjoying not drinking my calories. It’s important to mix things up and not ask your body to survive on the same 3 meals, day in and day out. My husband and I used to always have a protein bar mid day but now I’m discovering that i feel so much better when I actually have a small meal instead.
I try and fit in at least an hour every day (or at least 5 days a week) for my yoga practice. The studio that I go to keeps the temperature at about 90 degrees and this is so good for clearing out toxins and leaning out your body. They also live stream their classes so when I can’t get to the studio, I can still practice at home. I usually hide (from the puppies) in my closet and turn the heat up to get the most benefits, even from home. The reason I love the heat is because it makes your body loose and so much more flexible once you’re all warmed up.
One of the most important things you can do to keep your mind and body in tip top shape is make sure you are getting enough quality sleep. Most people don’t realize all the benefits of a good night’s sleep.
Good sleep improves your immune system, your metabolism, maximizes athletic performance, improves your concentration and productivity, and good sleepers tend to eat fewer calories.
People that do not get a good night’s rest will have a higher body weight, have a greater risk of heart disease and stroke, and are more susceptible to depression, and their bodies have increased inflammation. All of these conditions as well as our emotions and social interactions suffer when we do not get the proper amount of sleep.
Along with nutrition and exercise, good sleep is one of the pillars of health. Sleep makes up one third of our life for the average person, so why not make it one of your top priorities and take control of how you want to show up in the world.
I hope this helps and inspires you to make the necessary changes in your life to begin living the life of your dreams too.
