I had never really understood how or why so many people were obsessed with dogs until a few years ago when my daughter decided she was ready to have her very own puppy in her life to love and care for. She had graduated college and had moved out to Los Angeles and wanted, as she put it,“a reason to come home at night and get up in the morning”.
She had always said that when she got out of college and out of New York City that she was finally going to get the dog she had always wanted. And so she did. She found her Bernese Mountain Dog online and we had her shipped to her in California. My husband and I were out there for a visit just a few weeks after Kinga’s arrival. (She said she got the name from a Hungarian book she had read) .

Well you’ve heard of “Love at First Sight”? We were all completely smitten with this angel puppy. When I saw how much this dog had changed my daughter’s life in such a short amount of time, I instantly fell in love with her. My daughter was so much happier and more confident and even more even tempered with this new love in her life.
Shortly after we got to spend some time with Kinga I knew I wanted to have that kind of connection with a dog of my own.
Fast forward a few years later, and my husband and I decided we would each get a puppy while he was at home for almost a year recovering from multiple knee surgeries and a serious bacterial infection in his knee.
My husband has always had German Shepherds and I wanted a Bernese Mountain Dog. While we were searching for just the right puppies, my daughter mentioned that there was also a Bernese Mountain Dog mixed with a mini Poodle called a mini Bernedoodle breed. I liked the idea of the puppy not shedding as much as Kinga sheds, and also didn’t mind having a little bit smaller dog. I wanted to be able to travel places with her so this seemed like the perfect fit.
We found our babies and when they were old enough we had them delivered since we weren’t able to travel because my husband couldn’t walk and was on heavy doses of intravenous antibiotics.

We needed some joy in our lives during one of the most challenging times we had ever faced together. The puppies were the perfect answer. Birdie welcomed her younger brother Bear (one week younger) German Shepherd a week later and our lives will never be the same.
This puppy is laying here right beside me as I am typing this. She wakes me up every single morning with kisses and snuggles. She has the sweetest most playful temperament and I don’t know how I have gone my entire life without knowing this kind of love.
The best part of all is that the puppies brought the thing that we needed most into our lives. They completely changed the entire energy in the house, and even more remarkable, they changed the energy in both my husband and myself.
I really believe that we attracted the best dogs for us right into our homes at just the right time. We love having them here every day to love and play with, to take on long walks, to give us a reason to smile and bring us so much joy every single day. I really believe that they are the catalyst that set me on the path to beginning this journey with all of you.
You never know how just one tiny little puppy can change the trajectory of your entire life!
